Envelopes

An envelope is a budget category with its own available balance. Groceries, gas, dining, entertainment, and kids activities can each have separate funds.

  1. Go to Envelopes.
  2. Choose New Envelope or the add button.
  3. Enter a category name.
  4. Set the monthly budget.
  5. Pick an icon and color if shown.
  6. Save.

Create several envelopes before making cards. A useful starter set is Groceries, Gas, Dining, Household, Fun, and Travel.

An envelope is spendable when these are all true:

  1. Identity setup is complete.
  2. A bank account is connected.
  3. The envelope has a category card.
  4. The envelope has available money.
  5. The card is active.
  1. Open Envelopes.
  2. Tap the envelope.
  3. Use the edit action to change name, budget, icon, color, or visibility.
  4. Use delete only when you no longer need the envelope.

If the envelope has a card, deleting or closing it may also affect that card.

  • Personal envelopes are for your own spending.
  • Shared envelopes are for family use.
  • Family admins can create shared envelopes and issue member cards.
  • Non-admin members may need an admin to issue or change shared-envelope cards.
